Once you step inside this Greektown gem, you'll likely lose all sense of self-control ­ display cases beckon with tempting desserts and assorted fresh-baked goodies. Producing pies, cakes, brownies, truffles, and more, friendly bakers satisfy the craving of any sweet tooth. Of course, the specialty is baklava and other traditional Greek pastries, so don't pass on an opportunity to sample them. Gourmet coffees make ideal accompaniments, and a few croissant sandwiches are available as well.

DOWNTOWN. Distinguished by golden-hued walls and dark wood columns, this upscale eatery was created with the city's downtown professionals in mind. Intended to give them an early-morning venue for meeting and networking, it's also proven popular with folks of all ilks. Breakfast is served all day, and eggs Benedict variations are the runaway hit, especially the version with crab cakes. Cheese grits, DBH&G's take on the venerable chicken-and-waffles classic, stuffed French toast, and frittatas are also prime culinary terrain. Lunchtime fare is available as well.

Treat yourself to a delicious Sunday brunch, and be sure to ask for a table near the waterfall. In keeping with the laid-back atmosphere of a Louisiana-style brunch, treat yourself to one of their perfectly mixed Bloody Marys too.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS. Well-to-do Bloomfield Hills has more than its share of fine restaurants, but Fox & Hounds stands out for several reasons. A community staple for more than 70 years, the Tudor-style establishment offers old-fashioned elegance and charm in its Old English decor, beautiful mahogany bar, elegant main dining room, and fabulous Pastry Den, where award-winning desserts are created. Stop by and marvel at the chef's fresh-out-of-the-oven scones, muffins, cookies, brownies, and cakes. The Den accepts orders, but they do request that you give them between 24 and 72 hours.

ROYAL OAK. Located in quaint downtown Royal Oak, this friendly bakery features variety of tantalizing goodies ­ fresh breads, confections, pastries, and even cake or two. Hermann's boasts a certain small-town appeal, and their bread is rumored to be among the tastiest in the Motor City area. The building that houses Hermann's is one of Royal Oak's oldest commercial buildings.
